Capsule Polishing Line

Capsule Polishing Line

A Capsule Polishing Line (also called a capsule polisher, capsule polishing machine, or capsule polishing and sorting line) is essential pharmaceutical equipment used right after capsule filling. It cleans, polishes, dedusts, and often sorts filled hard gelatin (or similar) capsules to give them a smooth, glossy, professional finish while removing powder residue, dust, static, and minor defects.

This step ensures capsules meet cGMP quality standards, look clean and attractive, reduce contamination risks, and prepare them for inspection, printing, counting, bottling, or blistering.

What is a Capsule Polishing Line?

It is a specialized system (often a standalone machine or an integrated unit in a capsule production line) designed to clean, polish, and prepare filled capsules after they come out of the capsule filling machine. The main goal is to remove any residual powder, dust, or debris stuck to the outer surface of the capsules. This step improves the appearance, smoothness, and overall quality of the capsules, making them ready for printing, inspection, counting, bottling, or blister packaging.

A complete capsule polishing line typically performs multiple functions in one continuous process:

  • Polishing — Using rotating brushes (often spiral nylon or similar) to gently scrub and clean the capsule surfaces.

  • Dedusting — Removing loose powder via vacuum suction or air flow.

  • Lifting/Conveying — Usually vertical lifting to transport capsules upward while polishing (common in modern vertical polishers).

  • Sorting (in advanced models) — Separating defective, broken, or lightweight capsules (e.g., empty or partially filled ones) from good ones, often using gravity, airflow, or sieving.

How It Works (Typical Process)

  1. Filled capsules from the capsule filling machine are fed into the inlet hopper.

  2. Capsules enter a polishing chamber with a rotating spiral brush and a nylon or Teflon net/filter cloth.

  3. The brush gently rubs the capsules, removing attached powder while the vacuum collects dust.

  4. Cleaned capsules are conveyed (often upward) to the outlet.

  5. In sorting-enabled models, defective capsules are ejected or separated.

  6. Polished capsules exit with a smooth, glossy, bright appearance — ready for next steps.

Key Benefits

  • Enhances visual appeal and professionalism of the final product.

  • Improves cleanliness and reduces contamination risk.

  • Meets GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards for pharmaceutical products.

  • Increases production efficiency when integrated inline with filling machines.

Common Features in Modern Machines

  • Stainless steel construction (for easy cleaning and durability).

  • Variable speed control.

  • Vacuum dust collection system.

  • Compatibility with various capsule sizes (e.g., 00, 0, 1, 2, etc.).

  • High output (e.g., up to 300,000 capsules/hour in advanced models).

  • Often combined with capsule inspection or printing in full lines.

This equipment is essential in capsule manufacturing plants for nutraceuticals, vitamins, and pharmaceutical drugs to ensure high-quality, dust-free capsules.
